PONDTITE
DESCRIPTION/USE:
Bondall
PondTite is a brushable, water borne single pack waterproofing membrane.
Bondall PondTite dries to form a flexible, tough and seamless membrane.
The cured membrane is impervious to moisture and has good chemical resistance.
It is non-toxic when applied as directed to a correctly prepared, primed
and sound substrate and is suitable for immersion in water.
Use
for waterproofing fishponds, fountains, water features, non-potable water
holding tanks, and reflecting pools.
PondTite
is not intended for use in swimming pools or spas.
PLEASE
READ AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO USE. IF YOU ARE

SUITABLE
SUBSTRATES:
Due
to the various construction methods and materials used in building ponds,
Bondall cannot be responsible for any structure or installation found to
be of unsound construction or unsuitable substrate. Waterproofing membranes
cannot be expected to be a substitute for inadequate structural design
and less than ideal construction methods and building materials. Once it
is determined that the structure/iostallation is structurally sound, the
following procedures should be followed to ensure a successful job first
time:
Bondall
recommends that Bondall PondTite be applied over Bondall Epoxy Prep Surface
Conditioner as this system will help normalize the wide range of materials
and substrates used in the building of ponds and water features. This system
is suitable for use on most cementitious finishes including new and mature
concrete and masonry, bricks, new and fully cured cement render, insulation
blocks etc. Bondall PondTite accommodates limited cracking in the substrate.
Do
not use Bondall PondTite directly onto steel, iron, aluminium, wood, plastic,
glass or fibreglass surfaces as these require special primers and coatings.
Substrates such as kiln fired glazed pots, uros etc previously sealed and/or
waterproofed substrates or other substrates not mentioned may require special
preparation and/or special coatings prior to treating with Bondall PondTite.
COVERAGE
RATE:
It
is important to accurately measure the area to be coated to determine the
correct quantity of Bondall PondTite is purchased to successfully complete
the job. Insufficient material could result in failure.
To
complete each square metre of surface area, you will need 1.5 litres of
Bondall PondTite equally divided between two coats.
Eg:
For a surface area of 4 square metres you will require 6 litres (4 x 1.5
= 6) of product equally divided between 2 coats i.e. 3 litres per coat.
SURFACE
PREPARATION AND PRIMING:
NEW
MASONRY SURFACES:
Masonry
includes new concrete, sand/cement renders, concrete blocks, limestone,
sandstone, bricks and fibre cement sheeting.
New
concrete surfaces should be cured for at least 72 hours prior to being
thoroughly cleaned to remove any laitance which may affect adhesion. Once
cleaned, apply two coats of Bondall Epoxy Prep Surface Conditioner to the
surface, accurately following the instructions and leave to cure overnight.
New
masonry surfaces should be free from any “dags” and sharp edges (do not
apply on exposed aggregate finishes). All stonework should be properly
bedded in sand/cement mortar with the desirable inclusion of Bondcrete
in the gauging water. The surface should be thoroughly cleaned and be free
from dirt, dust, salts, grease, oil and any other contaminants.
EXISTING/MATURE
MASONRY SURFACES:
Existing
masonry surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any algal and fungal
growth by using Bondall Moss and Mould Eliminator. Surfaces should be free
from any “dags” and sharp edges (do not apply on exposed aggregate finishes).
The surface should be thoroughly cleaned and be free from dirt, dust, salts,
grease, oil and any other contaminants. Once cleaned, apply two coats of
Bondall Epoxy Prep Surface Conditioner to the surface, accurately following
the instructions and leave to cure overnight.
PREVIOUSLY
COATED OR PAINTED SURFACES:
If
the surface has been previously coated, the coating must be completely
removed back to the original substrate. Once cleaned, apply two coats of
Bondall Epoxy Prep Surface Conditioner to the surface, accurately following
the instructions and leave to cure overnight.
All
holes or cracks in the surface should be filled with a fine sand/cement/Bondcrete
mortar (3:1) thoroughly worked into the area and allowed to cure. Prime
the ENTIRE surface with Bondall Epoxy Prep Surface Conditioner and allow
to dry. Install a bond breaking tape and Bondall Polyweave reinforcing
fabric to all corner junctions and joints. A bond breaker is recommended
to accommodate any substrate movement in corners and joints. Apply a bond
breaking tape (such as 18mm vinyl electrical tape) to all corners and/or
joints. Allow the tape to bridge the joint or corner with equal amounts
on either side. Generously coat 75mm either side of the bond breaking tape
with Bondall PondTite, and while still wet embed a strip of Bondall Polyweave
reinforcing fabric into the wet membrane with a short bristle paintbrush.
Ensure all bubbles are removed from beneath the reinforcing fabric. When
this is dry, apply another coat over the taped and fabric reinforced area.
Once this is dry, apply Bondall PondTite to the rest of the surface to
be treated.
GENERAL
APPLICATION:
-
Prior
to application ensure correct surface preparation has been carried out.
-
Stir
contents slowly with a broad blade or paddle before use.
-
DO
NOT SHAKE as this will cause aeration.
-
Allow
at least overnight drying between coats, or longer if temperature is low
or humidity is high
-
DO
NOT APPLY IN CONDITIONS WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS LIKELY TO FALL BELOW 10ºC
WHILE THE COATING IS DRYING
-
DO
NOT APPLY IF RAIN IS LIKELY THE DAY OF APPLICATION OR SOON AFTERWARDS.
-
Apply
Bondall PondTite with a good quality medium to firm bristle brush
-
Apply
a substantially thicker coating than paint. Ensure no bubbles are left
in the membrane by laying off. Try to avoid excessive build-up in corners.
-
Apply
second coat at right angles to first coat.
-
Due
to the extra thickness of the material allow extra drying time if conditions
are cold, damp or humid.
-
Use
directly from the can as dilution is generally not necessary. If dilution
is necessary to assist with application in warm conditions, do not reduce
by more than 5% with clean water.
RECOATING
& DRYING TIME:
Allow
at least overnight drying between coats, or longer if temperature is low
or if humidity is high. Do not apply in conditions where the temperature
is likely to fall below 10°C while the coating is drying (typically
5-7days) or rain is likely the same day of application. The inclusion of
any water will extend the drying time.
Allow
a minimum of 7 days drying or longer from the time of completion before
continuous immersion in water.
FILLING
FISH PONDS:
After
a minimum of 7 days (or longer in cooler/humid conditions) clean and rinse
the pond. Some preservatives used in the manufacture of Bondall PondTite
need to be fully removed from the surface before introducing fish. Wash
off these preservatives from the pond surface by sponging the surface with
clean water mixed with a small amouot of dish washing liquid and thoroughly
rinse the pond with fresh clean water ensuring no traces of detergent remains.
Fill the pond with clean water and let this stand for 1-2 days. Empty this
water and refill again with clean water.
As
there are a number of factors that can impact on the livelihood of fish
and plants we recommend obtaining information on conditioning the water
prior to introducing fish and aquaculture from a reputable pet store, fish
breeder, nursery or similar.

If poisoning occurs contact a doctor .Do not induce vomiting. Give water
to drink. We always suggest the wearing of suitable protective clothing
including impervious gloves and eye protection during application and preparation.
