EPOXY
PREP Surface Conditioner
Bondall
EPOXY PREP SURFACE CONDITIONER has been specifically formulated as a waterproofing
substrate conditioner prior to applying BONDALL’s range of products, namely,
AQUATITE, PONDTITE, TERRATITE, POLYURETHANE PAVING PAINT, DECORATIVE AND
ARCHITECTURAL
PAINTS AND COATINGS. It can also be used as a water vapour barrier coating
prior to laying floor coverings such as carpets, timber flooring, tiles
etc.
KEY
FEATURES, USES AND BENEFITS:
Bondall
EPOXY PREP SURFACE CONDITIONER is environmentally friendly and is the ultimate
water borne epoxy coating system available prior to using the Bondall range
of water based liquid applied waterproofing membranes and conventional
paint.
Its
intended uses include but are not limited to the following:
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP is the ultimate surface conditioner to be applied to surfaces
that are less than desirable prior to applying AQUATITE, PONDTITE or TERRATITE.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP is a barrier against rising damp especially in installations
where there is uncertainty of the use of polyethylene builder’s films or
where there is a chance or a known source of continued renewable moisture
causing osmotic pressure, prior to applying AQUATITE, PONDTITE or TERRATITE
or conventional paint systems.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP is excellent for stabilizing dusty and loose surfaces prior
to applying conventional paint systems or other toppings or coverings such
as tiles or carpets.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP can be used as a tie-coat (intermediate coat) when AQUATITE,
PONDTITE,
TERRATITE or other conventional paint system is applied to surfaces previously
coated with bitumen based coatings.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP can be applied to hardened green concrete or damp concrete prior
to applying AQUATITE, PONDTITE, TERRATITE or other conventional paint systems.
Typically
allow newly poured and laid concrete to cure for between 8 to 12 hours
prior to applying EPOXY PREP.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP has tenacious adhesion to brick, concrete, cement render, masonry,
masonry blocks and compressed fiber-board/sheet and subsequent coatings.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP can be applied to damp substrates prior to application of conventional
paint systems, timber flooring, tile adhesives or carpet.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP can be over coated with conventional paint systems.
-
Bondall
EPOXY PREP can be over coated with cementitious products after curing i.e.
tile adhesives or floor toppings.
SURFACE
PREPARATION:
Careful
surface preparation prior to the application of any coating system is the
key to a successful job, longevity and performance. All surfaces to be
coated must be clean and sound. Remove all loose and flaking material from
previously coated surfaces. This can be achieved by using a wire brush
or by the use of a highpressure water jet. In situations where moss, mould
or mildew is present, remove all loose particles with a stiff brush. Apply
Bondall Moss and Mould Terminator and leave for 24 hours. Rinse well by
using running water and stiff broom/brush or by using a high-pressure water
jet. NEW CONCRETE: On new
concrete
surfaces, it is imperative that all laitance and/or contaminants are removed
that may affect adhesion
of
the EPOXY PREP.
Where
surface may be contaminated with oil, use Bondall Driveway Degreaser and
a stiff brush, followed by a rinse with clean water or use a high-pressure
water jet.
MIXING
DIRECTIONS:
Bondall
Epoxy Prep is supplied in two parts; a Resin part and a Hardener part.
Each
part (Resin and Hardener) must be mixed for at least two minutes before
use (clean mixing tool prior to mixing next component to avoid contamination
and possible reaction between two components).
Pour
equal volumes of Resin and Hardener into a clean container.
Thoroughly
mix the two components until a homogenous blend is obtained. Mix continuously
for 5 minutes using a broad flat paddle by hand or 3 minutes using a mechanical
mixer. Avoid aeration - as mixing too fast may entrap air into mix, which
may lead to pin holes in the coating.
Allow
to stand for between 5-10 minutes before use if temperature is above 20ºC,
or, between 10-20 minutes before use if temperature is below 20ºC.
The hotter the temperature the shorter the reaction or its induction time,
and is critical for the product to work properly. Bondall EPOXY PREP is
now ready for use.
POT
LIFE:
Pot
life is very dependent on the temperature of the resin and hardener at
the time of mixing. Keep the product out of direct exposure to heat and
sun and keep it as cool as possible to extend the useful working time.
The typical pot life of the EPOXY PREP product is as follows:
2
hours at 25°C/50% relative humidity or shorter, 1 hour at 35°C/50%
relative humidity. Use the product within the time. You will notice a difference
in the consistency of the product once its effective working time is reached.
DO
NOT USE ANY PRODUCT ONCE IT STARTS TO THICKEN AND CURDLE.
DO
NOT APPLY AFTER THIS TIME EVEN IF THE PRODUCT LOOKS SATISFACTORY – IT
WILL
HAVE TO BE DISCARDED. SO, MIX ONLY ENOUGH FOR IMMEDIATE USE.
APPLICATION:
Ensure
surface is damp or dampen thoroughly with clean water prior to applying
first coat. It is recommended to wet the surface of dry concrete and porous
substrates with a mist of water prior to application. Not dampening down
dry porous surfaces will result in the first coat pin-holing.
Apply
good thick coats using brush or roller. (Conventional spray methods can
be used; however we would
not
recommend using spraying methods for the handyman).
RECOAT
AND CURING TIMES:
Re-coating
can normally take place after no less than 4 hours at 25°C/50% relative
humidity. Overnight if it is cold.
Apply
AQUATITE, PONDTITE, TERRATITE and conventional paint systems or toppings
after at least 8 hours or the next day.
COVERAGE
RATES:
The
following are intended only as a guide as variations may take place due
to application technique, actual surface porosity and profile.
Smooth
Surface: 1St coat Typically 3 square metres per litre
2nd
coat Typically 5 square metres per litre
Rough
Surface: 1st coat Typically 2.5 square metres per litre
2nd
coat Typically 4 square metres per litre
CLEAN
UP:
Equipment
can be cleaned immediately after use with warm soapy water. When using
Bondall EPOXY PREP it is easier to use disposable brushes and roller covers
than cleaning up after the job is completed. If good quality brushes or
roller covers are used, wash thoroughly in warm soapy water and finally
rinse in clean water. Always dispose empty packaging in a responsible manner
and according to local regulations. Please do not pour washings down sinks,
drains, or water ways.
HANDLING
PRECAUTIONS
Bondall
EPOXY PREP is a safe product to use; however, it is advisable to avoid
contact with skin and eyes. Wear protective gloves and eye protection whilst
mixing, application and cleaning. If poisoning occurs contact Poisons Information
Centre on 13 11 26. If swallowed, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Give a glass
of clean water to drink and seek medical attention. If skin contact occurs
remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly and seek medical
attention if irritation occurs. If in eyes, hold open, flood with water
for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
