AQUATITE
(page 2)
DESCRIPTION/USE
AquaTite
is a brushable grey coloured elastomeric water borne modified acrylic waterproofing
membrane that exceeds Australian waterproofing standards AS3740-1994. It
has been specially formulated as a single pack product, suitable for both
interior and exterior applications.
AquaTite
dries to form a high extension, flexible, tough and seamless membrane that
is impervious to moisture with excellent resistance to hydrostatic pressure
and chemicals. It provides good protection against fungal and algal growth
and excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, bleach, detergents and most
common household solvents. It is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic
membrane that is suitable for permanent immersion in water when applied
at the required thickness.
PREPARATION
The
surface should preferably be dry, it may be slightly damp but must not
be wet. All traces of dirt, oil, dust, grease, rust, loose or flaking paint
should be removed from the surface before applying AquaTite.SUITABLE SURFACES:
Uses for AquaTite include waterproofing wet areas within buildings such
as shower recesses, bathrooms, laundries and kitchens. AquaTite accommodates
for moderate cracking of the substrate.
AquaTite
is suitable for concrete slabs and decks for terraces and balconies prior
to being covered with tiles, slate, marble or other toppings.AquaTite can
be applied to planter boxes, terracotta pots, non-potable water tanks,
fish ponds, roofs and retaining walls.Allow fresh concrete and rendered
surfaces to fully cure before coating (typically 4-6 weeks).AquaTite can
be used not only for waterproofing applications but also as a permaneot
tile adhesive, gutter repairs etc.It is not suitable for use over Silasec
treated surfaces or Bondcrete sealed surfaces. In pond situations, it is
recommended that plastic film is used underneath concrete to prevent continuous
absorption from the ground, otherwise the coating may not dry adequately.
APPLICATION
Brush
on application, can be trowelled or spread on to surface. Work on small
areas at a time and finish well as you coat. Apply second coat at right
angles to the first coat for a smoother finish and to remove pinholes.
Do not apply when below 10oC or above 85% Relative Humidity or when rain
is forecast within four hours, otherwise coating may be washed off. When
coating on hot substrates eg. Above 30oC, it is preferable to cool the
surface with water mist spray and coat whilst surface is dry or damp, but
not wet. Protect coated surface from rain with tarp and provide plenty
of ventilation.
THINNING
If
substrate is highly porous eg: limestone, sandstone, insulation blocks
the surface should be primed with AquaTite diluted with 10% water and primer
coat allowed to dry for 48 hours
DRYING
Allow
to dry about 24 hours between coats. Allow last coat to dry 7 days or longer
before continuous immersion in water. Allow extra drying time if conditions
are cold, damp or humid.
COVERAGE
Do
not exceed 1.5 square metres per litre per coat. A minimum of 2 undiluted
equal coats is required. Calculate surface area accurately. 4 litres covers
3 square metres at correct thickness.
Volume
required (litres) = Area (square metre) x 4/3
Use
up all required material regardless of number of coats.

CLEAN
UP
Easy
clean up in hot or cold water immediately after application using a stiff
bristle or wire brush. Turps may be used to soften hardened material on
equipment. Do not pour contents or washings down sinks or drains.
FILLING
OF PONDS
Leave
to dry 7 days or longer in cooler, humid conditions before filling and
rinsing pond. Fill pond with clean water and leave for 1-2 days. Empty
pond and refill with fresh water. Prior to introducing fish perform tests
for correct bacteria levels, pH, kH, ammonium, nitrate, phosphate ion,
chlorine, excess metals. To achieve desired level treat as necessary.
GAPS
AND CRACKS
Bondall
AquaTite is not a filler. Any holes or cracks in the surface should be
filled with polyurethane mastic, polyester filler (eg. car body putty)
according to manufacturers’ directions or fine sand: cement mortar (3:1
pbr) worked into the area. A bondbreaker is required to accommodate substrate
movement eg. corners. First generously coat about 75mm wide each side of
the gap and embed Bondall Polyweave reinforcing fabric into the AquaTite.
Follow by a fully saturated coat and allow to dry. Once dry, additional
coats may be required to ensure the entire Polyweave fabric is covered
without pinholes.

Precautions
To observe When Using
AQUATITE,
PONDTITE & TERRATITE
In
Pond Applicatioos.
Ready
Reckoner
Table
of Litres of product required for various pond areas.
1.
Accurately calculate the pond in square metres.
2.
Look up the table below for the volume in Litres of material required.
Coverage
in square metres per litre per coat: 1.5
Incorrect
preparation and application of these products can cause: blisters or bubbles;
coating lifting off the substrate; and release of white coloured material
when rinsing.
Generally
these problems can be attributed to one or more of the following:
-
Iosufficient
material purchased and used due to not correctly calculating surface area
to be coated.
-
Insufficient
drying time between coats and before permanent immersion in water due to
prevailing weather conditions.
-
New
cement or concrete not fully cured (dry looking concrete does not sufficiently
indicate that the concrete is in fact cured).
-
Contaminated
or incorrectly prepared surface.
-
Residual
moisture movement in substrate initiated by application of the membrane.
Important
-
Ensure
that you calculate the surface area accurately. Always round up rather
than down.
-
To
determine the quantity required use the following simple formula or refer
to the attached Ready Reckoner to help determine the quantity required
once you have accurately calculated the surface area:
Litres
required to coat pond = surface area (square metres) multiply by 4 and
then divide by 3.
-
Allow
the coating to fully dry for at least seven dry days before filling pond
with water. Allow extra time if the weather is cold and damp or humid.
-
All
new cement and concrete must be allowed to fully cure and dry for at least
4 weeks before coating (dry looking concrete does not sufficiently indicate
that the concrete is in fact cured).
-
To
determine if you have a source of rising damp or renewable moisture source
tape a piece of clear plastic sheet (approx 300mm x 300mm) over the surface
in a few areas and leave for a few hours. If moisture or dampness appears
on the underside of the plastic you should not apply AQUATITE, PONDTITE
or TERRATITE without rectifying the source of rising damp or renewable
moisture.
-
All
surfaces must be free of grease, oils, waxes, algae, dust, dirt and other
contaminants.
-
AQUATITE,
PONDTITE or TERRATITE are not suitable for use on substrates which have
been coated or sealed with other sealers such as bituminous, neoprenes,
silicones, acrylics, PVA’s etc or contain waterproofing additives or agents
or similar, or plasticisers.
-
After
rinsing and draining the pond, refill fish pond and leave the water for
at least 2 days. Prior to introducing fish, the water should be checked
to ensure a suitable environment exists for keeping fish. Contact a reputable
fish supplier if assistance is required.
PRECAUTIONS/FIRST
AID
It
is recommended that normal personal protective clothing should be worn,
including coveralls, impervious gloves and goggles. Avoid unnecessary skin
contact as the coating is very difficult to remove from skin.
Avoid
contact with skin and eyes. Should contact with eyes occur, flush with
water for 15 minutes, seek medical attention if irritation develops. If
poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or the Poison Information Centre. Give
water to drink and do not induce vomiting.
